Yes. Most people arrive at a book club meetup without knowing anyone. Joining a book club is a common way to meet a new group of people and make new friends.

If there are no book clubs near you yet, you can create your own in the app, and people nearby will see your club and can request to join.

In the app, open the Clubs screen and create a new book club. Enter the details, such as your club's name, location and description, and then invite people. Anyone nearby can find your club and request to join.

In the app, create a new event and choose reading as the activity. Add the location, the start time and a short description, such as the book you will discuss. People nearby who are interested in reading will see your event and can request to join.

No. Mingle Meetup IRL is completely free to download and use, and joining a book club is free too. Each person buys or borrows their own copy of the book. You can discuss the plan in the event's group chat before the meetup.
